SCHOOL HOLIDAY CADET CHALLENGE

webadmin Homepage news

Hello North Steyne Cadets, welcome to the 2021-2022 season!

The red and yellow flags are up this weekend and patrols are underway. The club is currently working through requirements for patrols, training and proficiencies as restrictions ease and we look forward to seeing you back on the beach soon. If you haven’t received a note from your Patrol Captain recently please reach out to myself, Brian or Club Captain, Jack Watt.

We know that many of you are located all over Sydney and beyond so weโ€™ve created a school holiday activity challenge to keep everyone united within the current restrictions which also provides an opportunity for you to work on your swim fitness.

Itโ€™s a two-pronged challenge with a bit of twist. Simply complete a minimum of 3 swims in any non-surf beach locations and take photos to record your experiences, all whilst staying within 5kms of your home. You can swim with family members, friends or fellow North Steyne SLSC members but please ensure you adhere to the current stay-at-home orders applicable to your area.

The twist is that you must complete the swims over the next two weeks in an ocean pool, harbour pool and/or an inland body of water i.e. not an ocean beach, within 5kms of your actual residence (not your LGA). So, a swim at North Steyne, Manly, Freshie etc wonโ€™t count. This keeps it fair for all our cadet members who may not live in the Northern Beaches LGA. Please aim for a swim of at least 40 strokes if possible and wetsuits and even a paddle on an inflatable is also ok. The aim is to get back in the water!

Send in your swims checklist and your best pics of these unique swimming areas to [email protected]

You have until 6pm, Saturday 2nd October to submit your entries. All photo entries will be judged by myself, Brian and Jack and we will award some prizes at the end of the holidays based on swim efforts and photos and creativity. Think sunrises, sunsets, funny pics, nature, people and your noughties hoodies may even make an appearance.
